The Monterey Bay Psychological Association (MBPA) is a non-profit association of licensed psychologists in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties.
Our Mission Statement
MBPA strives to promote the psychological well-being of the counties’ residents and to advance psychology as a science and as a profession. We are dedicated to practice, prevention, and research in the field of psychology. MBPA membership provides professional growth through continuing education programs, meetings, forums for professional interaction, publications, legislative representation, and access to social and professional events.
The MBPA received the CPA 2004 Outstanding Chapter of the Year award for their work in collaboration across disciplines, pro-bono and public education programs, legislative initiatives, and for the diversity of their membership. |

Print Version of Directory Now Available
The 2008-2010 MBPA directory is now available to order through our website at www.mbpsych.org. Due to the high cost of producing and printing our final paper directory, the cost per copy is $20.00 plus $5.00 for mailing. If you do not want to pay the mailing cost, directories are available at our offices at 412 Cedar Street, Suite C, in Santa Cruz. Those who buy the directory should know that the revenues are subsidizing its distribution to the community (e.g., hospitals, schools, doctor’s offices) for marketing our members' services. In addition, along with the creation of our last edition, our website now contains accurate member data plus the capability to individually update our profile so data is always up-to-date. Our website contains a “find a therapist” feature, which essentially represents the purpose of our directory which is to help select an appropriate therapist based on expertise, orientation and other factors. Several psychologists in the Monterey Bay Psychological Association directory volunteer to service the phone line for a psychologist information and referral service for Santa Cruz County. The number is (831) 429-7799 and is also in the yellow Pages under Psychologists. The service offers the chance to talk with a psychologist who will give you referrals to psychologists who offer the services you are seeking.

Ethics Statement
Monterey Bay Psychological Association Position on the Role of Psychologists in Military Interrogations
The members of the Monterey Bay Psychological Association feel compelled to speak out, unequivocally and without further delay, against the unethical, immoral, and illegal practices taking place in military prisons around the world. As psychologists, we would like to stand with all those who have protested the use of psychologists as consultants to torture, degradation, cruelty and/or inhumane treatment of military prisoners. In its structured examination of the ethics of this practice, the APA Psychological Ethics and National Security (PENS) Task Force did not go far enough in identifying and denouncing the misuse of psychological theory and practice in military interrogations and on rendition teams. We were disappointed and dismayed that the APA Council voted to approve the Task Force Resolution, rather than the more stringent Moratorium against Interrogations, at the August 2007 APA Convention. |
