Benefits of Joining the Monterey Bay Psychological Association

The Monterey Bay Psychological Association is a diverse community of talented, knowledgeable, and supportive professionals from Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties. Founded in 1980,  MBPA is a chapter of the California Psychological Association (CPA), and was honored in 2006 by CPA as the “Outstanding Chapter of the Year”.

We are dedicated to sustaining and enhancing mental health services and providing public service information around relevant psychological issues. We strive to support all our members in attaining the highest level of professionalism for their own development and for the benefit of the community. This is accomplished through collaboration, communication, connection, and community.

We are currently making an effort to expand our membership to include psychologists working in research, development, academia, organizations, and schools. We believe that collaboration across all domains of psychology can more effectively address the myriad socio-political and psychological issues that are so prevalent locally, nationally, and internationally. Now, more than ever, psychologists have a responsibility to share their knowledge with each other, and the public. MBPA has already begun collaborating with other health care professions, mental health facilities, financial investment firms, and pharmaceutical companies to create Continuing Education programs, Interdisciplinary Salons, Collaborative Consultation Groups, and Financial Educational Seminars for our members. Our new listserv provides a great opportunity for members to share their perspectives, pose questions, and facilitate meaningful dialogue. MBPA affords numerous opportunities for members to share their point of view.

A few of the benefits of becoming a member of MBPA include:

1.     Connection with a group of professionals for consultation about practice issues - sharing work, experiences, and ideas with colleagues decreases isolation;

2.     Stay informed and actively participate through our newsletter, website, listserv, and connection with the California Psychological Association;

3.   Experience rewarding, collaborative interactions with clinical and research psychologists, allied professionals, and mental health organizations;

4.   Attend informative seminars and workshops (many of which will fulfill continuing education requirements) and fun social events;

5.   Support the community by giving public service talks through the MBPA Speakers’ Bureau, writing articles, or participating in forums;

6.   Increase the visibility of your practice, research, workshops, and talks; and

7.   For researchers, collaboration with your MBPA clinical colleagues can inform research questions and design - and clinicians and their patients benefit from your work
